Mumbai: Actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has given birth to a baby girl, the first child for the former Miss World and her actor husband Abhishek Bachchan. The delivery took place at the Seven Hills Hospital in Marol, Mumbai.
A proud grandfather, Amitabh tweeted on Wednesday morning, "I AM DADA to the cutest baby girl !!"
India's news channels were unusually respectful of the family's privacy - this after an industry group issued new guidelines about coverage of the birth announcement. The rules include no pre-coverage of the birth and no outdoor broadcast vans outside the hospital.
Rai won Miss World in 1994 and has appeared in more than 40 films, including "The Pink Panther 2." She has been cited by media as the "most beautiful woman in the world."
Aishwarya was reportedly admitted to a hospital in Mumbai, India, on Monday.
The baby girl is the first child for both Aishwarya and Abhishek, who have been married for four years.
